Our Domaine was built at same time as the Canal du Midi (1780 cica). Made of local stones and beams, the gite which is on two floors has been completely renovated. Use of the swimming pool, Hot Tub and a private BBQ area is included.

ABOUT THE PROPERTY:

Veronica and Georges would like to welcome you to their Domaine. This quiet spot along the Canal du Midi is ideally situated to discover the richly steeped history of the Cathare region. A few minutes from Carcassonne, not far away from Toulouse, between the Black Mountains and the Pyrenees regardless of whether you are passing by or staying on holiday our Domaine is the best place to start.

The origin of the Domaine Les Magasins dates back to the end of the 18th century. Since 1650 the grounds were the property of 'Les Lordat' seigneur of Bram. Its total area was 39 hectares and the grounds were run by a manager. In 1681, the Canal Royal des Deux Mers (Canal du Midi) was passing just alongside the domain. In 1766, Louise-Marguerite Colbert de Seignelay, widow of Joseph-Marie de Lordat had the idea of taking advantage of the traffic of goods passing every day on the canal at the 'Port de Bram'. She leased to Antoine Barascou, dealer/merchant in Castelnaudary a large area of land in return for building a warehouse 'Magasin' to house grain, wheat, steel and various other goods before loading them onto the barges on the canal. This 'Magasin' was to include accommodation for staff, a courtyard, stables and generally everything needed to run the domain. Building work started but for various reasons the merchant was unable to finish it. After a 6 year long court case (from 1778 to 1784), the Count François de Lordat, got back the domain and finished the work in 1785 under his own plan. Until the second half of the 20th Century, the property did not change a lot. Any changes made were mainly connected with farming needs around the domain. Unfortunately, the property was in a state of ruin when the present owners bought it. However, it is now being renovated to its former glory, mixing original features with a touch of modernism.

POOL:

Our swimming pool has a sound alarm system; consequently it is a condition of your stay that toddlers and children can only use the pool if they are supervised by their parents.

PARKING:

There is plenty of parking spaces and in view of our automatic gates system they are very secure

KITCHEN:

American kitchen, gas cooker and oven, large fridge/freezer, microwave,washing machine, dishwasher, pressure cooker etc...

LIVING/LOUNGE AREA:

Very large salon, dinning room with leather sofas. Dinning table seats 6/8, cheminée, modern shelving system with TV

BEDROOMS:

Bedroom 1 with extra large double bed, en-suite and view of the Canal du Midi.
Bedroom 2 with extra large double bed, en-suite and view of the Montagne Noire.
Bedroom 3 with single bed, possibility to include a child bed or cot.

CLEANING INFORMATION:

Cleaning is not included but can be organised

LINEN NOTES:

Towels and linen are included. Beds are made on arrival and a clean change every week.

PET NOTES:

As we have cats ourself we cannot accept any animals

Bedroom 1 has an ensuite bathroom with bath/shower, lavabo and WC
Bedroom 2 has an ensuite bathroom with a shower, lavabo and WC
