An ideal base from which to tour the magnificent Troodos Mountains, the sun gets strong here in summer but you can retreat to the shelter of one of the many beach cafes. Pegeia is the main settlement in the area surrounding Coral bay, connected to it by a growing network of holiday and residential villas. Very much an established resort Coral Bay is home to many villas set apart from one another above a wide curve of dark golden sand.
Things to see here include the ancient ruins of Paleokastro on the Maa headland, a Bronze Age settlement excavated before 1985 but still fenced off, that are well worth a look. Take a walk along the cliffs on either side of Coral Bay or take a stroll among the nearby vineyards, orchards and banana plantations as an alternative to sitting on the beach.
The approach road from Coral Bay to Pegeia is dotted with tavernas and the village centre is home to another cluster. All have similar menus, offer family cooking and good value for money in a family atmosphere.
