Limousin

Although the cheapest region to buy your property in France, Limousin remains mainly undiscovered. More recently, this is changing with this mainly agrigultural region becoming a popular place for the British to buy their second or retirement home.

Famous for cows, cows and more cows, you could be forgiven for thinking you have arrived in Devon, UK, with the lush green fields and mainly unspoilt landscapes.

Made up of three departements, Cruese, Haute-Vienne and Correze, Limousin has the cheapest properties in France, although perhaps surprisingly, this has not led to an influx of inhabitants - there currently being only 42 inhabitants per sq kilometre. Having the Dorgogne river running through it, and a sprinkling of english shops, you can buy a three bedroomed property here, with a garden for £80,000 (2005).

There are now regular flights to Limoges from the UK and, if you can find one, now would be an excellent time to buy your property in Limousin which has been referred to as 'the new Provence'. Also, from 2007 you can take advantage of Correze's new airport at Brive, which is the kind of city dreramt about by French property seekers.

The gite also has its own natural spring running from the hills behind the house. A lovely beach lake is only a short drive away. Saint Martin Ste Catherine is close to Bourganeuf the first town in Europe to get electricity. Ambusson is about a 30 min drive and famous for its tapestry s. Gueret is also around a 30 min drive away,The Wolf pack enclosure is very good so I am been told.

There are lakes for fishing or swimming and close by is the river le Vézère. Medieval towns such as Ségur-le-Chateau, Collanges-la-Rouge or Rocamadour, shopping in Brive, Limoges or Périgueux. The Correze is a very pleasant and undiscovered part of France.
