This famous iron structure stands in the Champ-de-Mars, in Paris on the south bank of the Seine.

Designed for the centennial Paris exhibition of 1889 by Gustave Eiffel (who died in Paris in 1923), the Tower in his name was erected in 1887-89. Located on the Champ de Mars beside the River Seine in Paris, the Tower is the tallest structure in Paris. It was formerly the tallest structure in the world until the Empire State Building was built about 40 years later.

It consists of three storeys or platforms, the platform of the summit being 300m above the ground. Electric lifts take you up providing glimpses of the extraordinary bold architecture of the monument. Almost 7620 t of iron was used in its construction.

The 18-meter climb ends with a breathtaking view of Paris. There are two levels - one outdoors and the other indoors - for you to explore and discover Paris by day or by night.

The tower is alsoused for radio and television transmission and as a meteorological recording station.

Home to the the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), this building was founded in 1945. The concrete and glass building was designed by an American, an Italian, and a Frenchman, and houses a large Picasso exhibition and a gigantic Calder mobile.

Entrance to the exhibitions here are free from weekdays(except on holidays). Proof of identity must be provided.
