Bracciano
A popular tourist destination in the Lazio region, Bracciano is a town and commune located northwest of Rome, Italy that boasts some of the most outstanding scenery north of Rome. Famous for its large lake (Lago di Bracciano) and renowned for its fish, sailing and lakeside lunches, the lake is the second largest in Latium and of volcanic origin which explains its circular shape and 540ft depth.
Being the main town on the east shore, Bracciano is littered with historical sites dating back to Roman times and dominated by the Orsin-Odeschalchi medieval fortress, a pentagonal 15th century structure that crowns the steep slopes on which the town is built. Many famous people have been married in the Castle, including Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, which has frescoes by Antoniazzo Romano and other Tuscan and Umbrian artists.
Located around 21 miles north-west of Rome, Bracciano's main square, Piazza IV Novembre, is a relaxing place to sit among the local residents who meet here to pass the time of day. Tourist information can be obtained from the green kiosk located in the town.
