Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast, or Costiera Amalfitana in Italian, is a 40km stretch of mountainous coastline on the south side of the Sorrentine Peninsula between Positano in the west to Vietri sul Mare south of the bay of Naples - the southern end of which stretches out into a peninsula that reaches towards the Isle of Capri.
Spring and Autumn are the best times to visit as the area becomes really crowded in Summer. Positano is becoming the most popular resort on the coast and is popular with the rich and famous while Amalfi is the largest town and an ideal base from where to tour the area. Other popular towns on the Amalfi Coast include Minori, Scala, Atrani, Ravello and Praiano.
Renowned for its rugged terrain, scenic beauty, picturesque towns and diversity, the Amalfi Coast is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Without a doubt this is one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world not to mention the wonderful climate, sophisticated hotels, excellent cuisine and delicious local wines. For walking, the Path of the Gods is a walk from Positano to Praiano while the Gardens of the Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo in Ravello are a must for those who appreciate beauty.
