Lake Bracciano
With a depth of about 540ft, the Lake is easily reached by train from Rome. The lake, Natural Park and Botanical Gardens of San Liberato are wonderful attractions for nature-lovers and the Historical Military Aircraft Museum are of great historical & artistic interest.
The lake is dominated by the 15th -century Orsini Odescalchi castle and can be accessed by the winding road which leads all the way down to the waterside.
Serving as a reserve water reservoir for Rome, the Lake cannot be used for motor boats although there are no restrictions on any other type of water activities. In recent years, the lake has become increasingly popular both with locals and tourists but accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets is in plentiful supply.
Be sure to visit the Church of Santa Maria Novella, the Santo Stefano Cathedral and the old town, and if you have time left, Trevigna Rome is a quaint village on cliffs on the Braccanio shore which has plenty of little cafes and restaurants from where you can admire the beautiful landscapes of forests, olive groves and gardens.
