Lake Garda

Located in Northern Italy, about half-way between Venice and Milan, Lake Garda is the first taste of the Italy beyond the Alps. Formed by glaciers at the end of the last ice age, it is a pretty area with fine displays of quaint waterfront villages, Mediterranean countryside and lively Italian piazzas.

Embedded between high mountains, olive groves and vineyards, the Lake is a major tourist destination surrounded by an excellent network of roads and well served by ferry and hydrofoil services, offering the opportunity of visiting some of Italy’s most romantic cities - Venice, Verona or Italy’s trendy city Milan.

Close to Verona and within reach of the Valpolicella wine area and Venice, Lake Garda is rich in ancient heritage and architectural beauty and visited by millions of tourists each year. There are many towns and fishing villages stretching around the Lake with most centred around the southern and eastern shores.

This area has so much to offer, not least the spectacular mountains and many beaches providing watersports for all tastes and accommodation is plentiful with a number of hotels and resorts situated along its shore. You can try your hand at windsurfing from Riva and Malcesine or scale the heights of Monte Baldo, the lake’s highest mountain, from the comfort of a cable car. For children there is Italy's largest fun park called Gardaland.
