Lake Iseo

Formed by the Valcamonica Glacier, the lake is a true jewel, situated just north of Brescia and Bergamo. Set between the better-known lakes of Como and Garda, Lake Iseo is little-known beyond northern Italy and this make a visit here all the more special.

The lake itself is 24 kilometres long and up to 5 kilometres wide and the area offers many opportunities to explore the sixty-kilometre perimeter which is dotted with quaint fishing villages, the main ones being Iseo, Sarnico, Lovere, Pisogne and Marone. The peaceful and traffic-free island of Monte Isola, the largest inland lake island in Europe, is easily reached by ferry and is a perfect location for walking or cycling.

The scenery is very dramatic with sheer sheets of limestone at one point on the western bank and the Pyramids of Zone, earth pinnacles up to 10 metres high, on the eastern side of the lake.
