The Riviera di Levante is the stretch of coast east from Genoa in North-West Italy, a continuation of the French Riviera.
Riviera di Levante
Perhaps not the ideal destination for a relaxing beach holiday, due to its huge popularity in the holiday season, the Riviera Di Levante area is by far the most picturesque of its neighbouring areas in the Italian Riviera.
To avoid the crowds the Riviera di Levante is best visited outside of the main holiday season. Many of the quaint towns here are home to pastel coloured buildings and pretty harbours and away from the resorts, the cliffs and bays are best experienced from the many vantage points along the footpaths along the headland.
The most well-known harbour towns in the area are Camogli on the Golfo Paradiso and Santa Margherita Ligure on the Golfo Tigullio while Portofino on the southern tip is one of the most exclusive and renowned International tourist destinations in the world. Crammed with expensive yachts and luxury stores, it is a popular place to mingle with the rich and famous. In contrast, Porto Venere, next to the Cinque Terre, remains one of the most romantic waterside villages of the Ligurian coast and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
