Sao Martinho Do Porto property & accommodation

With its shell-shaped bay, wide sandy beaches and safe bathing waters, Sao Martinho do Porto is popular with tourists who visit to experience the many restaurants offering fish and sea fruit specialties. This charming town on Portugal's Atlantic coast in the area known as the Costa Prata or Silver Coast, has something for every taste from hiking, water-sports, tennis or just relaxing in one of the many restaurants and bars.

With good rail links from Lisbon, Sao Martinho do Porto has become a popular holiday destination with the Portuguese, and the area can become particularly busy during the summer months although it is somewhat quieter the remainder of the year. A market is held every day except Mondays where you can sample the local produce.

Given to the Cister Monks in the XII century, by the first King Afonso Henriques, Sao Martinho do Porto was used as a port to transport wood from the pine forest of Leiria. The ruins of a medieval Customs House can still be visited.
