The coast of the province of Castellón, the most northerly in the region of Valencia, is called the Costa del Azahar, meaning orange-blossom coast.
Costa del Azahar
Named after the dense citrus groves of the area, this undiscovered jewel of Spain's Mediterranean Coast, this is a land of great contrasts offering unspoilt countryside, a 112 Km coastline with safe, sandy beaches, medieval castles, and the nature reserve on the Columbretes Islands is an inviting option.
Nestled between the vibrant cities of Barcelona and Valencia, the miles of golden sandy beaches and secret coves in Costa del Azahar are all bathed by the clear warm Mediterranean sea. Traditionally Spanish, the principal resorts here are Benicassim and Peniscola. The most northerly point Vinaros and Benicarlo are key fishing ports of the area supplying prawns and date mussels to the local restaurants.
