Located in the province of Mugla, in the southwest of Turkey Akyaka is another beauty spot in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Akyaka
Mainly a traditional Turkish resort, Akyaka has grown in recent years and occupies a delightful position at the end of the Gokova gulf. It is only in recent years that Akyaka has attracted foreign holidaymakers.
Very much a picturesque village, the architecture is very much in true Turkish tradition – there are no high-rise hotels and strict rules surrounding any new buildings to ensure that Akyaka maintains its quaint charm. Famed for its "Ula" architecture, properties in the village are a combination of old Ottoman Empire and Greek style.
For the tourist, sunbathers and swimmers can enjoy Akyaka's long, sandy beach while children can play safely in the shallow water. In the streets behind the beach there are several small shops ranging from mini-markets to souvenir shops
Perfect for canoeing, the nearby Azmak appeals to the water-sport enthusiast.
Bordered by forest on one side and a conservation area on the other, Akyaka is a charming and unspoilt destination to relax.
