Aberaeron
Aberaeron, referred to as the “Jewel of Cardigan Bay” is a delightful small town with charming Georgian houses particularly around Alban Square. The fine harbour became a trading port and ship building centre in the early 19th century. The last boat was built here in 1994 and the harbour is now full of holiday sailors.
Although the industry here has all but gone, on the quay is Aberaeron Sea Aquarium where a selection of sea-life can be viewed as well as the chance to discover Cardigan Bay’s marine ecology and heritage coast in a unique boating experience.
On the quayside is the popular Honey Bee Ice Cream parlour which is renowned for its selection of ice-creams. Inland from the town lies Aberaeron Wildlife Park, home to a selection of animals as well as Jimmy, who is believed to be the world’s only albino crow.
Walks extend along the cliff path south to Cei Bach with its ancient church. There are also many charming shops including the Aberaeron Craft Centre, Clos Pengarreg, which is housed in traditional farm buildings where visitors can see products being hand-made and have the opportunity to purchase crafts at the end of their visit! Aberaeron also offers a plentiful supply of eating places and pubs to enjoy.
