Founded in the 1870s Sandford became a major inland port, which eventually brought Florida's adventurous early tourists
Sanford
Restored downtown Sandford dates from the 1880s, the height of the Stemboat era. Several of the lovely red brick buildings house antique shops, and the area can be easily exlpored on foot in a couple of hours.
Today's visitors are more likely to arrive on the Auto Train than by river, but short pleasure cruises are still available.
