Named after the nomadic Turkic Qashqai tribe and built at Nissans NMUK Sunderland, Tyne and Wear plant since December 2006 is designed to sit with the X-Trail replacing the Almera and Primera.
A weak joint connecting the steering wheel to the column is the culprit for a worldwide recall that effects roughly 7,300 Qashqai cars in the UK. A finnish driver had his wheel come away whilst parking at low speed.
Owners are asked to contact their local dealer or ring Nissan customer services on 01923 899 334.
The fuel filter hose connector may not be fully connected to the fuel filter. If the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, a fuel leak may occur or in extreme conditions, the engine may stall.
Recall all affected vehicles and inspect the fuel filter hose connector. If found to be faulty, carry out remedial work.
It has been established that the casting for the heat sink on the Electric Power Steering (EPS) control unit may be out of specification. In extreme cases, this can cause a failure of the EPS motor, which will illuminate a warning light on the dash. Whilst directional control is not affected, it is possible that the driver will experience a sudden loss of power assistance.
Recall all affect vehicles and replace the EPS control unit.
The cover screw securing the pinion shaft may loosen causing noise during steering operation. Continued use in this condition could result in the screw coming out of the gear housing and, in certain circumstances, cause a loss of steering control.
Recall the potentially affected vehicles to fit a locking plate to the cover screw that secures the pinion shaft.
It has been identified that a connector in the diesel particulate filter fuel system may not be correctly attached. If this is ignored, fuel may leak from the connector during a particulate filter regeneration cycle.
Recalled vehicles will have the connector checked and tightened as necessary.
There is a possibility that the air conditioning compressor may seize which could result in an unexpected engine stall.
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to replace the a/c compressor and the drive belt and idler roller.
1) It has been identified that the possibility exists, that a needle bearing has been omitted from the steering shaft. Additionally, the cover screw may not have been tightened to the correct torque. This may result in the cover screw becoming loose, initiating free play and noise within the steering system. Ultimately, steering control may be lost.
2) There is a possibility that a steering cover screw may not be sufficiently tight. This could lead to initially free play and noise in the steering which if not attended to eventually could result in the loss of steering control.
Recalled vehicles will have the steering gear inspected. The steering gear will be replaced should this be found to be necessary.
It has been identified that the front suspension lower ball joints on some of the Qashqais have not been fully seated into the hub. This has resulted in the securing bolt not fitting into the groove in the ball joint shank. If the situation goes uncorrected the ball joint could detach, which could result in loss of vehicle control.
Recalled vehicles will be checked for correct location of the ball joint and rectified as necessary.
