ERIKI apartments in south-western CRETE between Sougia and Omalos

About the property

The house was built in 2001 within the framework of a development program for tourism in the country area of Crete, supervised by European Union. It performs the standards of quality required by this program.
The village of Epanochori, 45 km southwards from Chania on the Chania-Sougia mainroad, still maintains its traditional way of life : the 200 inhabitants live on their oil trees, vines and herds of goats and sheep.
Located at an altitude of 650 m in south-western Crete dominated by the impressive mass of the White Mountains, ERIKI stands at the head of a valley going down up to Sougia on the shore of the Libyan sea. Surrounded with pastures and small vegetable gardens on ground stages, outside Epanochori 200 m away, our guests enjoy exceptional quietness, space and comfort in open and wonderful environment.
House ERIKI offers only four studios. Each unit has a surface area of 40sqm with living- and sleeping areas, kitchenette, bathroom, and can accommodate up to 4 people (+ 1 child on an extra single bed). Moreover, each studio has a spacious covered balcony which overlooks the valley as far as the Libyan sea. Hot water is produced by solar energy. The heating of each studio, related to a central oil–fired boiler, can be directed by individual thermostat (charge according to operating time). Two of the four studios have opened chimney. Because the house is located 650 m high above the sea, air-conditioning is not necessary even during summer months.
Large common room downstairs, garden around, common terrace on the first floor, parking close behind the house are also at disposal of our guests. Two studios are accessible to wheelchairdrivers.
At Epanochori and Agia Irini, some taverns and kafenions serve Cretan food. Several restaurants in Sougia and Omalos.

LEISURES

Hiking in mountain : Omalos plateau, Samaria gorge, Agia Irini gorge, tops of Gingilos (2080 m), Melindaou (2133 m), Kallergi shelter (1660 m), Greleska viewpoint... are reachable from ERIKI on foot or by the early bus joining Xyloskalo at the south-eastern end of Omalos plateau.
Sea : long quiet beach in Sougia (17 km by car), day trips by ferryboat to Agia Roumeli, Loutro, Chora Sfakion and Gavdos island. Hiking along the Libyan Sea to Tripiti gorge eastwards or to Lissos and Paleochora westwards. Taxi-boat also available.
Historical places : Lissos and Elyros near Sougia, Chania (archaeological museum, the old town, the monasteries of Akrotiri), Falaserna, Aptera. Further : Rethymnon, Arkadi, Preveli.

INCIDENTAL EXPENSES

The rates above are for 2 persons and one full week :
Additional charge 3rd/4th person = 45 € a week per person (25 € per child <16 years).
Shorter or longer stay : e-mail us please and you will receive an offer.

On request : breakfast or lunchbag : 5 € (adult) or 4 € if daily, 3,5 € (child <11 years)
Heating : charge according to operating time = 1 € an hour (clock related to the individual thermostat).
Car : you don't need a hired car, but it is recommended if you want to explore further the western part of Crete. We can make the reservation by a reliable rental company at reasonable rate.
No tax, no fee for final cleaning, no cost for towels and bed linen.
